Membership Types and Definitions
New Admittee and Second-Year Attorneys
LACBA offers a complimentary two-year membership to all attorneys who have recently passed the California State Bar Examination. This includes two free years in our Barristers/Young Attorneys Section as well.
Rate: Free for year 1 and 2 after earliest date admitted in any state.
General Members:
Open to licensed attorneys who are in good standing with the State Bar of California or who are admitted to practice before the highest court of any state, district, territory or possession of the United States.
Rates:
- Year 3 = $75
- Year 4 = $100
- Year 5 = $150
- Year 6+ = $395

One Bill
The easy way for firms to cover General Membership dues
For offices in California with 10+ attorneys, LACBA’s One Bill invoicing program offers a single, easy annual payment with a 5% discount*. For details on One Bill and other firm billing options, contact LACBA’s Membership Department at msd@lacba.org or (213) 896-6560.
*Must pay for 100 percent of the firm’s attorneys to qualify for the discount.
Sustaining Members:
Open to licensed attorneys who are in good standing with the State Bar of California or who are admitted to practice before the highest court of any state, district, territory or possession of the United States, who voluntarily pay higher dues to support LACBA.
Rate: $400
Affiliate Members:
Open to licensed attorneys who also are current members of one of LACBA's Affiliate Bar Associations, who are in good standing with the State Bar of California, or who are admitted to practice before the highest court of any state, district, territory or possession of the United States.
Rate: $370 (Year 6+)
Law School Faculty/Dean Members:
Open to anyone who is a full-time faculty member, Assistant Dean, Associate Dean, or Dean of a law school accredited by the American Bar Association and/or Committee of Bar Examiners of California.
Rate: $100
Sitting Bench Officers:
Open to anyone who is currently serving as a Justice, Judge, Administrative Law Judge, full-time Commissioner or Magistrate of a court of record of the United States, the State of California or of any agency of the federal, state, territorial, possession, county or city government or of any agency determined to be a “public agency.”
Rate: $50
Government/Public Service Members:
Open to licensed attorneys admitted to practice before the highest court of any state, district, territory or possession of the United States and is currently a full-time employee of any agency of the federal, state, territorial, possession, county or city government or of any other agency determined to be a “public agency.”
Rate: $100
Legal Associate Members:
Open to paralegals, law firm administrators and other non-lawyer professionals who are interested in the law or legal profession and those admitted to practice law only in jurisdictions outside the United States, its territories and possessions.
Rate: $125
Associate Members:
Open to non-attorneys: for example, real estate individuals, service providers.
Rate: $375
E-Members:
Open to all attorneys (across the United States and Internationally) whose principal place of business is outside of Los Angeles, Ventura, Orange, and San Bernardino Counties. Attorneys must be in good standing with the State Bar of California or be admitted to practice before the highest court of any state, district, territory or possession of the United States.
E-membership is only available by calling LACBA Member Services at (213) 896-6560.
Rate: $150
Law Student Members:
Current law students who are enrolled in a law school recognized by the American Bar Association or Committee of Bar Examiners of California receive a free LACBA membership. This includes membership in our Barristers/Young Attorneys Section as well. Those who take the first California bar exam following graduation may continue as law student members until they are admitted to practice.
Rate: Free
Retirees:
65 years or older and inactive status with State Bar. Retiree membership is only available by contacting Member Services at (213) 896-6560 or msd@lacba.org.
Rate: $150
Please be advised that after a detailed review, rates for certain LACBA membership categories increased on February 28, 2025. This change was our first price adjustment in eight years and is meant to address rising costs while maintaining top-tier membership programs and resources.
