LACBA’s High School Mentoring Program

Now in our 17th Year!

The Los Angeles County Bar Association’s High School Mentoring Program is now in its 17th year!

We will be meeting virtually via Zoom again this year, although we will be setting up field trips to the courts and to a local law school, which mentors can attend in person.

Wilson’s Mock Trial Team is looking for lawyers to help coach the team after school.  The hours will be 3:30 to 5 p.m. once or twice a week.   Please contact the Law Academy’s Director, Quetzal Roura, if you are willing to volunteer to help the Wilson students prepare for the Mock Trial Competition!

Thanks so much for your support and participation in LACBA’s High School Mentoring Program!

If you are interested in speaking at any of these sessions, we would love to have you. Please email me.

From Our Latest Program:

On October 22, 2025, the students in Woodrow Wilson’s High School’s Law Magnet Program visited UCLA Law School as part of LACBA’s High School Mentoring Program.  Organized by Brenda Suttonwills, member of the Executive Committee of LACBA’s Diversity in the Profession Section, and UCLA Law School’s Dean for DEI Initiatives, the program featured many fantastic speakers, including Dean Michael Waterstone, UCLA pre-law undergraduate students, UCLA law students, and alumni.

Many thanks to Brenda and also to Nicole Matsuda and Greenberg Glusker for providing lunch for the students!  It was a great day!

LACBA's High School Mentoring Program
with the Wilson Magnet High School Law Academy
Receives the DIVERSITY CHAMPION AWARD from
California LAW (Leadership Access Workforce) Pathways

Our program received this award in 2021 "based on its 10-year history of an extraordinary mentoring program under the leadership of Ann Park, who brings amazing speakers, lawyers, and judges to work directly with the students, and a committed and hard-working teaching team consistently focused on student success for the past decade under the leadership of LAW Pathway coordinator/teacher Quetzal Roura," said Ruthe Ashley, Executive Director Emeritus of California LAW Pathways.
"California LAW Pathways honors them as High School Law Academy Diversity Champions."

On October 23, 2020, the Los Angeles County Bar Association held the first virtual meeting of its High School Mentoring Program via Zoom with high school students from Woodrow Wilson High School in East Los Angeles. Forty-three students in the Wilson H.S. Law Magnet Program and 37 mentors participated in the event. The speakers included former California Supreme Court Justice Carlos Moreno and Los Angeles Superior Court Judges David Cunningham and Shelly Torrealba. The mentors included numerous Los Angeles Superior Court Judges, LACBA members, and United States attorneys from around the country. The Mentoring Program, founded in 2007, is a pipeline program that brings lawyers and judges together with diverse high school students, to provide advice and support for the students in applying to college and to encourage them to pursue careers in the law.

To volunteer as a mentor, please contact LACBA President-Elect Ann Park at apark@foleymansfield.com.
