LOS ANGELES COUNTY SUPERIOR COURT UPDATES
Changes to Court Operations
On March 15, 2020, the Los Angeles County Superior Court issued a press release announcing that it is "scaling back non-essential court operations as part of a phased approach" in response to concerns regarding the Coronavirus/COVID-19. The press release contained the following announcements:
• No new jurors will be summoned for any Civil or Criminal jury trials for the next 30 days;
• The trial Judge for any jury trial or non-jury trial in session may exercise his or her discretion to either continue the trial or declare a mistrial;
• Self-help centers will be closed today, except for telephone assistance with restraining order preparation by calling (213) 830-0845; and
• Judges are encouraged to offer telephonic appearances and other strategies to reduce courtroom traffic.
The press release further states that additional public protection measures will be evaluated and announced today (March 16, 2020) or tomorrow.
