LOS ANGELES COUNTY SUPERIOR COURT UPDATES

Electronic Filing (“efiling”) in the Civil Division

  • Civil Division’s Transition to Electronic Filing

The court has set a new date for mandatory efiling for complex cases, which is July 1, 2019.

There is only a mandatory phase for efiling complex civil documents. Prior to implementation of this mandatory phase, documents must be presented for filing at the clerk’s office. Beginning July 1, 2019, attorneys must efile documents.

New Amended General Order is expected soon.  Amended General Order will distinguish which documents need to be filed electronically and/or in-person.

  • A link to a video of the public meeting held on Tuesday, October 23, 2018, at the Omni Los Angeles Hotel, during which information regarding electronic filing was provided, can also be accessed from the Court’s website at:
    http://www.lacourt.org/division/efiling/efiling2.aspx
  • E-filed documents MUST be text-searchable and bookmarked.
  • Court advises attorneys to keep track of transaction numbers, as it will help with backdating documents.
  • The rate of rejection has decreased from above 50% to about 16%.
