Video Conferencing:

The Court plans to transition to a video-conferencing platform in Civil and Probate matters that will allow parties and attorneys to appear remotely. It is anticipated that the new platform called “LA Court Connect” will be implemented when the Court reopens.

Call Centers:

The Court has established call centers at all courthouses to answer questions regarding filing, case status and more. The following link provides a list of courthouses, from which you can click on the courthouse handling your case and find the main courthouse number to call: Courthouses. Courthouse Call Center phone hours are Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Family Law Ex Partes:

Ex parte applications in Family Law matters may be submitted via email. See this Notice to Attorneys for more information.

COVID-19 Notices:

Please visit the Court’s COVID-19 News and Resource Center for Court orders, policies and procedures. You may also refer to LACBA’s Weekly Response Newsletter for updates related to COVID-19.

Judicial Updates:

Judges Michelle E. DeCasas, Lisa R. Washington and John C. Weller were appointed to the bench by Gov. Newsom. See this Article re Appointments for more information.



Electronic Submissions

The Court asks attorneys to please provide all submissions – the clerk’s transcript, the reporter’s transcript, the appendix and/or any other document – to the clerk in electronic format. If any document has been filed in paper format only, the Court asks attorneys to please scan it and send a courtesy electronic copy to the clerk to facilitate the processing of the appeal. Documents may be sent to the email address of the division in which the appeal is pending – for Division One; for Division Two; for Division Three; for Division Four; for Division Five; for Division Six; for Division Seven; and for Division Eight).



Rule Changes

The new and amended local rules listed below became effective June 1, 2020.  A redlined version of these rules, in addition to complete copies of the rules, are available on the Court’s website.


COVID-19 Notices:

The Court has issued a COVID-19 Notice and a notice re Further Measures Taken in Response to COVID-19 Pandemic that provide important information on courthouse access, court hearings, filing information and mandatory chambers copies. Additional information and COVID-19 guidance can be found in the Visitor Restrictions and General Orders.

Judicial Updates:

  • Effective June 1, 2020, Judge Cormac J. Carney succeeded Judge Virginia A. Phillips as Chief Judge of the United States District Court for the Central District of California. Additional information can be found here.
  • Effective January 1, 2020, Magistrate Judge Paul L. Abrams succeeded Magistrate Judge Patrick J. Walsh as Chief Magistrate Judge.  Additional information can be found here.
  • Patricia Anne Donahue was appointed as a Magistrate Judge and was sworn in on May 4, 2020.  Additional information can be found here.
