Welcome to the inaugural issue of LACBA's Business and Corporations Section's e-newsletter. I am this year's Chair of the Executive Committee of the Business and Corporations Section.
In the newsletter we will try to keep our Section members posted on upcoming seminars, webinars and other events which the Section is sponsoring. In addition, we will be posting articles on legal topics of interest to business and corporate lawyers. This issue has a short article alerting members to a pending California regulation, which was proposed by the Department of Business Oversight, to exempt "finders" from the broker-dealer registration requirements.
This Section's seminal Fall event will be, as it has for many years, the Securities Regulation Seminar on Friday, October 21st which will be held at the Millennium Biltmore Hotel. This will be the 49th annual seminar and will feature as its keynote speaker Leslie Caldwell the Assistant Attorney General for the Criminal Division of the Department of Justice as well as many top SEC officials from Washington and Los Angeles.
Section members are encouraged to send in articles or information which they feel may be of interest to our members for possible inclusion in future editions of this newsletter. In addition, our Section members who wish to more actively participate in their Section are encouraged to apply for membership on the Executive Committee.
Finally, I would like to especially thank John Hartigan, last year's Chair of the Section's Executive Committee, for his services on behalf of your Section and LACBA. I'd also like to congratulate him on his election to the Board of Trustees of LACBA, an honor well deserved!
