The Los Angeles County Bar Association Lawyer Referral Service “SmartLaw” has begun offering pre-screened client referrals which have been vetted for solvency and other basic criteria throughout Orange County. This marks a substantial new benefit for attorneys who practice law in Orange County who will now have access to clients in the region through one of the leading referral services in the country.

 Kirk Dillman Photo Kirk Dillman Receives 2018 Jim Robie Professionalism and Civility Award

LACBA congratulates Kirk Dillman, a principal in the Los Angeles office of McKool Smith Hennigan, who was selected as the recipient of the 2018 Jim Robie Professionalism and Civility Award. The Award is given annually by LACBA’s Litigation Section to a Los Angeles trial lawyer whose career demonstrates the same qualities of professionalism, civility, service, enthusiasm, and collegiality as the Section’s former chair, Jim Robie. Not only was Mr. Robie an accomplished trial lawyer, he was a consummate professional who embraced civility and service to the bar and the civil justice system. 

Mr. Dillman, who specializes in complex commercial litigation and trial practice, primarily in the areas of finance, securities, energy, real estate, trade secrets, partnership, and healthcare fraud, said “It is truly humbling to receive an award that honors the amazing life and spirit of Jim Robie.”

 CFJ Thumb ACFLS Foundation Awards $10,000 Grant to LACBA Domestic Violence Legal Services Project
DVP wishes to thank the Association of Certified Family Law Specialist (ACFLS) Foundation for their generous grant in the amount of $10,000.  ACFLS Foundation President Joseph J. Bell said “The Domestic Violence Legal Services Project is effectively providing needed services to diverse and underserved abused litigants in a creative and pro-active manner.” Mr. Bell will present the award to Counsel For Justice President Mark Garscia and DVP Project Director Sara Rondon on March 3, at the ACFLS conference in Rancho Mirage, CA. This award will assist the DVP to continue to provide critical services to victims of domestic violence in Los Angeles County.

 ALSP-logo Pro Bono Law Firms Lead Small Claims Collaboration at Southwestern Law School

The Small Claims Project is an innovative and collaborative program first developed in 2009 by the LACBA AIDS Legal Services Project (ALSP) and Bet Tzedek Legal Services to help litigants prepare for and navigate Small Claims court. The collaboration was joined by the pro bono law firms of Greenberg Glusker, Reed Smith, and Arnold & Porter, along with additional partners Southwestern Law School and Loyola Law Center for Conflict Resolution. In 2012, the collaboration was recognized for its unique contribution to the community by receiving a Distinguished Pro Bono Service Award from the State Bar of California.
