Van de Kamp Photo LACBA Mourns the Passing of Former State Bar President John Van de Kamp
The Los Angeles County Bar Association is extremely saddened by the sudden passing of former California Attorney General and State Bar President John Van de Kamp. LACBA President Margaret P. Stevens said of Mr. Van de Kamp, “John Van de Kamp was my mentor when we were both on the State Bar Board. His gracious and gentle approach to leadership, and even some much-needed humor, made thoughtful discourse possible on difficult subjects. The LACBA family will miss him very much, particularly by our Conference of Delegates delegation, on which he served tirelessly for many years.”

Immigration Project thumb LACBA Immigration Legal Assistance Project: Things Have Changed
Imagine this. You're at home after a long day of work, relaxing in front of the television, perhaps dozing gently as you sink into your favorite chair. Suddenly there’s a sharp knock at the door, rousing you from your peaceful slumber. You rise and open the door and are greeted by a flurry of movement consisting of badges being shoved in your face and shouting, followed by even quicker explanations, most of which you don't understand. Your children are crying, and your wife can only watch, helplessly, as you are led away in handcuffs, wondering when or even if they'll see you again.

magnify_1115 Commenting on Cases: Don't let Blogs and Press Releases Get you in Trouble
When a real estate mogul confides to his ghostwriter that his deals are built on “truthful hyperbole” and his eponymous tower grows 10 phantom stories, it is not surprising when “alternative facts” become part of the playbook.[i] But lawyers play by different rules, and their brand is their trustworthiness. When lawyers engage in self-promotion by publicly announcing new lawsuits and trumpeting their victories, their blogs and press releases may be regulated under the rules of professional conduct and could also expose them to liability.
