 Law-Student-Podcast LACBA Introduces "ADMITTED," a New Podcast for Law Students

LACBA, in conjunction with its Barristers Section for new attorneys, has launched “ADMITTED,” a new podcast that assembles experiences, tips, and insights from practicing attorneys to help law students prepare for legal careers and make a successful transition from law school student to legal professional.

Each episode of "ADMITTED" will feature interviews with a diverse group of LACBA members reflecting and sharing their personal experiences from graduating law school to finding their place in the legal landscape.

It is not misleading to the public, and therefore is not a violation of the Rules of Professional Conduct, Rule 1-400, for a law corporation or limited liability partnership to use a firm name that includes the name of a lawyer who is no longer a shareholder or partner, but who remains employed at the firm.

 Attorney-Conduct-Rules-Revised Supreme Court Approves Revision to Attorney Rules

The Supreme Court of California filed an order approving the first comprehensive amendments to the Rules of Professional Conduct of the State Bar of California in twenty-nine years. The court approved forty-two rules as modified by the court, twenty-seven rules as submitted by the State Bar, and denied approval of one rule.

LACBA welcomed more than 100 guests to the beautiful Landmark Theater in West Los Angeles for a private screening of “RBG,” a film exploring the exceptional life and career of U.S. Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg. With popcorn in hand, the audience was captivated by the film the New York Times calls “a loving and informative documentary portrait of Justice Ginsburg during her 85th year on earth and her 25th on the bench.”

Los Angeles County Volunteer of the Year Award

On April 23, 2018, Domestic Violence Legal Services Project volunteer, Carlos Dominguez, was honored as a Los Angeles County Volunteer of the Year. Carlos is a Deputy Attorney General with the California Attorney General’s Office, where he practices criminal appellate law.  Having volunteered with DVP since 2015, and given over 150 hours of his time, Carlos was selected for his dedication to providing legal assistance to victims of domestic violence. Every month, he takes time to come into the clinic to help victims, showing compassion and respect for each person he assists.  His positive attitude, warm demeanor, and professionalism are all valued by our clients and staff.

From Tchaikovsky’s 1812 Overture to a Leonard Bernstein Centennial Salute, the LA Lawyers Philharmonic & Legal Voices will celebrate their 9th season with a Concert Extraordinaire under the baton of Founder-Conductor Gary S. Greene, Esq. The concert will commemorate the 100th birthday of legendary composer and conductor Leonard Bernstein by performing his most popular works featuring songs from West Side StoryCandide and On the Town. The program will include music by composer Aaron Copland. The orchestra and chorus will also perform an inspiring rendition of Tchaikovsky’s 1812 Overture. Actor Edward Asner will receive the June Lockhart Humanitarian Award, and he will deliver a narration as a tribute to Bernstein. According to the State Bar's April 2018 Draft Annual Discipline Report for Year Ending December 31, 2017,[i] the Office of the Chief Trial Counsel (OCTC) received 15,175 new complaints in 2017. Of these, OCTC took 491 cases to trial or resolved them by stipulated disposition. As a result, the California Supreme Court disbarred 129 and suspended 134 attorneys in 2017. In addition, 52 attorneys were subject to reproval, resulting in a total of 315 attorneys subject to formal discipline in 2017.[ii]
