Veterans Legal Project Thank You

May was a very busy month for the LACBA Veterans Legal Services Project and we have many people and groups to thank. First, the Project thanks Wells Fargo’s Community Relations team who brought together volunteers from locations across Los Angeles County to join the Project at Patriotic Hall to offer an evening of free Financial Literacy Workshops for veterans on May 5. The workshops were engaging and informative, ranging from tips to paying off debt and managing investments, to buying a home and starting a business. This was the first in a series of workshops expected in the coming year, and we are very excited to work with Wells Fargo to provide this service to LA’s veterans.

The Project also thanks the LACBA Family Law Section Executive Committee, its representative Mark Spalding, Esq., and the Levitt & Quinn Family Law Center, for helping make our May 16th Family Law event a success. Mr. Spalding once again providing a terrific, “Family Law 101” presentation. Levitt & Quinn followed up with free consultations for veterans on their family law matters, including divorce, custody, military benefits as community property, etc. We look forward to continuing this collaboration on a quarterly basis.

The Project also thanks the attorneys and staff from the Glendale office of State Farm for donating their time and talents to the Project’s May 17th legal clinic at Patriotic Hall. For most of the State Farm attorneys, this was their first time volunteering with the Project to assist LA’s veterans, with many offering to assist again in the future. Their assistance is crucial in our efforts to help veterans overcome legal barriers to their employment, such as outstanding tickets and warrants and criminal convictions. With confidence and improved employability, our clients are able to rejoin the workforce and move on with their lives.

The Project’s next legal clinic, covering Outstanding Tickets & Warrants and Criminal Record Expungement, will take place on Wednesday, June 21 at Patriotic Hall. Click here for details.
