MAKE A DIFFERENCE: Immigration Attorneys needed for LACBA’s Immigration Court Pro Bono Representation Panel

LACBA’s Immigration Court Pro Bono Representation Panel has helped more than 4,000 people remain in the United States with their families over the past 19 years.  Many persons in the Immigration Court are represented by notaries and legal consultants - prevalent in almost all the ethnic communities - who can deprive people of their legal rights and benefits under the law.

To help provide accurate information about immigration law and to represent these clients in court, we need volunteer immigration attorneys to participate on LACBA’s Immigration Court Pro Bono Representation Panel.  The panel operates every Wednesday and Friday morning at the Immigration Court located at 606 S. Olive Street in Los Angeles, at which time pro bono attorneys report to designated courtrooms for Master Calendar hearings only.  Volunteer attorneys are then matched with participating Respondents. Once Respondents are given counsel and advice they then proceed with the attorney back to the Immigration Judge to do pleadings.

Each participating attorney will be asked to do one master calendar hearing per month, for 6 months, or what your schedule allows.  Maribel Reynoso, the panel coordinator, will try and be as flexible as possible.

If you would like to participate, please join us for this training.  Remember Pro bono representation is only for the first master calendar appearance.  Immigration Court experience is preferred, but not necessary.
