Los Angeles, California – June 29, 2021 – The Los Angeles County Bar Association (LACBA) is pleased to announce that its Diversity Impact Award has been renamed the Philip H. Lam Diversity Impact Award. Philip H. Lam has been instrumental in leading LACBA’s diversity, inclusion, and outreach efforts, and has spent countless hours in the past twenty years working to advance these efforts. The Award was established in 2018 to recognize an individual, bench officer, government legal office, public-interest law organization, law firm, corporation, or other legal service organization for his/her/its long and distinguished history of increasing inclusion and diversity in the practice of law.
Mr. Lam, Intellectual Property Counsel for the Los Angeles City Attorney’s Office, has always been a champion of LACBA’s diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts. In 2018, he spearheaded the effort to amend the LACBA Bylaws to add the position of Vice President of Diversity, Inclusion & Outreach, and served as the first person to hold this Officer position. Prior to amending the Bylaws, Mr. Lam was a leader of the LACBA Diversity in the Profession Committee, which has since become LACBA’s 28th Section. He also helped form and currently serves as Chair of the LACBA Racial and Social Justice Task Force; led efforts to assist LACBA Sections in increasing diversity in leadership and programming; recruited new Affiliate/Affinity Bars and law school communities; designed an e-hub of tools to connect with members of Affiliate/Affinity Bars and law students; and led the effort to create LACBA’s Diversity Impact Award to incentivize and recognize progress.
“Phil is a tremendous asset to the Los Angeles County Bar Association,” said LACBA President Tamila Jensen. “We are so proud to have him among our ranks, and to see his efforts in advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion within the legal profession is quite remarkable. It is with great honor that we name this Award after him.”
