Other Pro Bono Opportunities

In addition to LACBA's own legal services projects, we'd like to make you aware of opportunities for other pro bono work:

Featured Pro Bono Opportunity:

UNLAWFUL DETAINER ANSWER CLINIC

LACBA’s Appellate Courts Committee, in partnership with Public Counsel, is operating a pilot program in the Second District Court of Appeal to offer representation to indigent litigants who are without counsel.

Pro Bono Programs Guide:

There is a searchable online directory of statewide California legal services programs offering pro bono opportunities available here:  https://www.californiaprobono.org/oppsguide/

Volunteer Opportunity For: Attorneys, Experienced Paralegals (bar waiters and non-CA attorneys also welcome)
Opportunity Type: Remote Limited-Scope Clinic
Time Commitment: Approximately 3 hours
Clinic Schedule: Every Tuesday, shifts at 1:30 pm & 2:15 pm
Advocacy Skills: Client interview, drafting pleadings, advice, and counsel
Training: 45-Minute prerecorded training video 8.27.21 UD OCHJC Training.mp4

Assist low-income tenants facing eviction during the pandemic by helping to prepare answers to Unlawful Detainer complaints in this remote clinic that takes place every week. Volunteers and clients “meet” via a conference call, and housing staff attorneys are available to provide real-time assistance in a video conference room for the duration of the clinic.

Volunteers may elect to continue pro bono representation of the client in demurrer hearings, motions for summary judgment, and even trial – though there is no obligation to do so beyond the clinic.

Contact Monica Mar, mmar@clsocal.org, to sign up.

IOLTA Grant Recipients:

More than 100 nonprofit organizations that provide free civil legal services to low-income Californians are registered with the State Bar to receive limited available funding:,  http://www.calbar.ca.gov/AboutUs/LegalAidGrants/GrantRecipients.aspx)
