Welcome to the Environmental Law Section of the Los Angeles County Bar Association.
We are a committed and diverse set of practitioners who have a long tradition of bringing high-quality legal programs regularly to our community.
Each year we explore ways to enhance and build our legal expertise and share what we know and learn with our members. As soon as we see a development on the horizon – whether it is a new set of regulations or a landmark decision on the horizon – we stop and consider who is best equipped to lead the effort to explore and present findings. We welcome new members and seek to continue partnering with other bar associations to better equip each other and our clients with practical knowledge. We refine our skills together, re-visiting nuts-and-bolts programs to equip our new members with the broad range of skills needed to serve the California community.
We value the relationships within the environmental bar where we honor competing interests and views. Our strong tradition is to confront the various factors that affect the environmental landscape, sharing concerns from our local and state regulators and non-governmental environmental organizations as well as from the regulated community. We are fortunate to have depth to our membership that includes strong ties with legal scholars who make mandatory continuing legal education truly instructive.
Each year our programs include a half-day Fall Symposium, lunch seminars, a full-day Spring Symposium, and a May Membership Reception where we honor a member of the community who has made progress toward helping the environment. Our first lunch program on October 10, 2018 explored the new regulations under the Safe Drinking Water and Toxic Enforcement Act of 1986 known as Proposition 65. Our November 9, 2018 Fall Symposium featured keynote speaker Michael Stoker of federal EPA Region IX. Mark your calendars for our upcoming events:
