Board Member Responsibilities

 

The Board

  • Oversees the Association in accordance with its Articles of Incorporation and Bylaws, to effectuate the reasonable intent of the bylaws regarding the structure of the Board of Trustees, its meetings, attendance, vacancies, powers and duties.
  • Guides the organization’s mission and purpose.
  • Periodic review of the organization’s programs and services.
  • Ensures sound risk management policies.
  • Fills Board member vacancies as prescribed in the Bylaws.
  • Organizes itself so that it operates efficiently.
  • Understands the relationship between Board and staff – recognizes that staff handles LACBA’s operations and the Executive Director supervises the staff.
  • Enhances the organization’s public image.
  • Approves applications of bar associations applying to be affiliated with LACBA; decides pursuant to the Bylaws whether waivers of affiliated bar status requirements are appropriate.
  • Abides by the Code of Civility Policy.

 

Board Roles

  • Attend Board Meetings.
  • Preparation in advance of all meetings.
  • Confidentiality.
  • Establishing appropriate LACBA policies.
  • Oversees amendment of LACBA bylaws and procedures for amendment of the Bylaws.
  • Establishing the annual dues for each classification of membership.
  • Authorizing new and disestablishing Sections and Committees.
  • Ambassador for the Association in the legal community and throughout Los Angeles County. Sharing the positive message and benefits of membership with lawyers, law students, the judiciary and the public.
