Barristers Election Process Begins
The 2008 Barristers election process begins March 12, the first day to file a self-nominating petition for one of the seven 2-year positions on the Executive Committee or for the offices of president-elect, vice president, or trustee. The president-elect and vice president each have one-year terms. The trustee serves a 2-year term. The president-elect automatically succeeds the president.
All self-nominating petitions must be filed by April 1 and must be signed by at least 10 Barristers.
To be eligible for president-elect, trustee, or for a seat on the Executive Committee, candidates must have been born after January 1, 1973, or not have completed the 10th year of practice as of January 1, 2009. Candidates for vice president must have been born after January 1, 1972, or not have completed the 10th year of practice as of January 1, 2008. Candidates for president-elect and vice president must have previously served or be serving on the Executive Committee. Candidates for Barristers trustee shall not have previously served as a LACBA trustee and shall not be currently serving as a Barristers officer or be a candidate for a Barristers office. Executive Committee candidates must not have served previously for more than 3 years as of July 1, 2008.
