Law Student Awards
The Outstanding Bankruptcy Law Student Award and the Jeffrey S. Turner Outstanding Commercial Law Student Award are presented to the best students in commercial law and bankruptcy, as selected by their secured transactions and bankruptcy law school professors. The Jeffrey S. Turner Outstanding Commercial Law Student Award is named in honor of Jeffrey S. Turner, a stalwart supporter of the Los Angeles County Bar Association's Commercial Law & Bankruptcy Section, and especially the Commercial Law Committee of the Section. Jeff was the co-presenter, with Steve Weise, of the annual Commercial Law Update sponsored by this Section and the Financial Lawyers Conference. Those who were fortunate enough to be members of the Commercial Law Committee with Jeff had the delightful opportunity to hear Jeff deliver many candid and insightful comments on current cases. Jeff's regular presentations to the Committee provided the opportunity for members to exchange views with him and tap his virtually total recall of past decisions. Jeff passed away suddenly on July 17, 2004 while on vacation. His command of the law combined with his infectious humor will be deeply missed.
