Joel Rabinovitz
2005 Recipient of Dana Latham Award

The Taxation Section has selected Joel Rabinovitz as recipient of its prestigious Dana Latham Award for lifetime achievement in the field of taxation law, for the year 2005. 

Joel Rabinovitz is considered one of the most prominent tax lawyers in California.  For more than forty years, he has practiced in all areas of tax law for clients all over the world.  He has been a partner at Irell & Manella LLP since 1981 where he continues to counsel a wide array of businesses, individuals, and fiduciaries with respect to local, state, federal, and international tax issues. 

Before joining Irell & Manella, Mr. Rabinovitz served as Deputy International Tax Counsel at the U.S. Department of the Treasury.  Prior to that position, Mr. Rabinovitz was a professor of law at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA).  He has continued to teach courses in Taxation of Pass-Through Entities and U.S. Taxation of International Transactions at UCLA.

In addition to the many domestic clients Mr. Rabinovitz has advised with regard to state and federal issues, he has also represented numerous foreign investors, including growing technology companies and major U.S. multinationals in connection with their international tax planning.  He has been recognized by Chambers USA as one of America's leading business lawyers.

Active in professional organizations, Mr. Rabinovitz has been a member of the Council of the International Fiscal Association United States Branch since 1993.  He lectured in 1995 in Ankara, Turkey at the Tax Treaties Course sponsored by the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development.  In 1998, he presented an IRS training program for International Examiners.  Mr. Rabinovitz is also the author of numerous articles that have been published in leading tax journals.

Mr. Rabinovitz received his B.A. from Cornell University and his LL.B., magna cum laude, from Harvard University.
