30 Hour Basic Mediation Training
26.75 hrs CLE Credit
Trainers: Lynne Bassis, Esq., Gail Nugent, John Rodriguez, & L.Therese White. Thirty hours of lecture, small group exercises, and role-playing designed for persons who want to acquire a strong foundation in mediator skills and wish to satisfy the classroom training requirements of the California Dispute Resolution Programs Act. Training covers, among other things, the negotiation process, mediation law, and legal requirements/provisions, settlement techniques, communication and active listening skills, identifying the proper parties for the mediation, confidentiality of the process, breaking impasse, and drafting the settlement agreement.

DRS Advanced Skills Practicum & Certification Preparation
18.0 hours CLE credits
The practice of mediation is highly focused on the interactions not only between the disputants and but also between the disputants and the third party neutral. The advanced practicum aims to develop more advanced skill sets of the reflective practitioner as well as key elements, principles and strategies in interventions of the interactive processes in mediation. Participants practice more advanced skill sets and participate heavily in role plays and other group facilitations. The types of cases that participants practice with include disputes that are common in community mediation and litigated cases.  This course includes the 10 hour litigated training minimum requirement for applicants to the Los Angeles Superior Court Pro Bono Panel.

Attorney Client Fee Arbitrator Training
3 hrs CLE Credit
Speakers: Ted Boxer, Esq., Joel Mark, Esq., and Diana P. Scott, Esq. and Kirtley Thiesmeyer, Esq..  
Reserved for all persons who are currently serving or plan to serve as an arbitrator or mediator for attorney/client fee disputes administered by LACBA and DRS, Inc. The three hour training will review State Bar and LACBA fee arbitration rule provisions, applicable provisions of the California Arbitration Act, and will instruct on arbitral case management and effective hearing demeanor technique.  Call (213) 896-6532 for more information or (213) 896-6560 to register. 

Advanced Divorce & Family Mediation Training
14 hrs CLE credit
Speaker:  Forrest S. Mosten
This course is designed for mediators who have already completed at least a 30-hour basic mediation program, and who wish to enhance their skills in dealing with issues involving adult children and their parents, family businesses, co-habitation agreements and other specific training that may be transferable to divorce and domestic partnership disputes.

Refund policy - Upon written request, a full refund less a $50 administrative fee will be issued if the notification is received 10 days prior to the training. In the unlikely event the training is canceled or postponed, fees will be applied to future trainings or be fully refunded. Space is limited. Advance payment required to guarantee seating.  

Training course attendees are not assured of obtaining a volunteer position with DRS.  

CLE Credit - The Los Angeles County Bar Association is a State Bar of California approved MCLE provider. The Los Angeles County Bar Association certifies that this activity has been approved for MCLE credit by the State Bar of California.
