MESSAGE FROM THE CHAIR
Welcome to the Los Angeles County Bar Association Environmental Law Section! We hope you will take the opportunity to explore our website, and learn more about our Section's activities and programming.
Environmental lawyers are fortunate to practice in a very dynamic, highly diverse and rapidly evolving practice area. Change is a constant: whether related to priorities in federal and state policymaking and regulatory standards; litigation trends; or, for example, concerns about climate change and whether and how environmental laws can be effective in reducing greenhouse gas emissions in the years and decades ahead, in California and globally.
A core goal of our Section is to ensure that our CLE programming reflects the diversity, breadth and evolving nature of our practices, and to keep our Members informed and up to date on topical issues. We do this in three ways: (1) a regular series of lunch hour programs at the LACBA offices; (2) our annual half-day Fall Environmental Law Symposium, to be held on Friday, November 7, 2014 at the Century City InterContinental Hotel; and (3) our annual full-day Spring Environmental Law "Super Symposium," to be held on Friday, March 27, 2015 at the Hyatt Regency in downtown LA. Please note that we offer discounted registration rates to law students as well as government and NGO attorneys. Please check individual program information for details.
We also engage in a variety of outreach efforts, such as with law schools and community organizations, with the goals of promoting environmental awareness, providing advice on careers in environmental law, and encouraging involvement with our Section. Along similar lines, we host an annual spring membership reception—free for Section members—where we honor a guest who has made significant contributions in the area of environmental law.
It is my honor and pleasure to serve as the Environmental Law Section's Chair for 2014-15. On behalf of our entire Executive Committee, we hope you will join us at our programs and events. We look forward to seeing many familiar faces, and especially welcoming new ones. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions or suggestions regarding our Section's activities, or how we can better serve the needs and interests of our membership.
