On December 2, 2004, the California Supreme Court in Graham v. DaimlerChrysler Corporation, held that private attorney general attorneys' fees awards could continue to be made when a lawsuit triggers a beneficial change in a defendant's policy without further litigation.  This decision follows the position set forth in the LACBA-supported amicus brief.  Full text of decision (70 pages, adobe pdf).
