Message from the Chairperson:
Dear Remedies Section Members (and prospective members):
I would like to begin this message with a sincere “thank you” to our many section members. Your membership, support, attendance at Remedies Section events, and frequent inquiries and “nuggets of wisdom” on the Section’s List Serve have made 2014 another successful year for the Section thus far.
We are in the midst of a strong slate of programs for 2014 with more great programs to come. Recent events included highly successful programs on specialized levies (getting after that “high hanging fruit”), the “remedies toolbox” available to practitioners in bankruptcy court, and our annual “Breakfast With The Experts” at Los Angeles Superior Court. Looking forward, hopefully you will join us for the following future programs:
- June 3, 2014 — program on ethics in negotiations concerning debtor/creditor cases;
- September 30, 2014 — program on remedies available in bankruptcy court (put on jointly with LACBA’s Commercial Law & Bankruptcy Section); and
- Late October, 2014 — Halloween program on “Collecting From the Dead.”
Specific details for each of these programs are available here on LACBA’s website as well as on the Remedies Section’s Facebook page: http://www.facebook.com/home.php#!/pages/Los-Angeles-County-Bar-Association-Remedies-Section/10674632939530
For those of you who are not yet members of the Remedies Section, please strongly consider joining and attending our events. The Remedies Section is not just for those attorneys who practice in the areas of bankruptcy, creditor’s rights, and collections. If you are a litigator or otherwise have clients who face a significant amount of litigation in the course of their business activities, you will benefit from the learning, networking, and camaraderie that members of the Remedies Section enjoy. An injunction, attachment or appointment of a receiver can make or break a case right out of the gate. On the back end, a judgment is nothing more than a piece of paper without the know-how you need to enforce it. In short, the Remedies Section addresses the areas where the “rubber meets the road” in modern litigation practice. We would welcome and enjoy your participation.
Thanks to all and best wishes in your practice and careers.
Best regards, Benjamin R. King, Chair
