Officer and Board Election Declarations Due
Members of the Committee may submit additional names of members for nomination to at-large, section, and affiliate trustee positions prior to the second meeting of the Committee. The Committee nominates one or more LACBA member(s) for each available position of at-large, section, and affiliate trustee for the term that begins on July 1, 2013. All trustees usually serve two-year terms; however, in this first election following the amendment of the Bylaws last June by the LACBA membership, half of the nominations will be for one-year to stagger term endings. The Committee also nominates one or more current or former trustees for each of the offices of president-elect, senior vice president, and vice president. Officers serve one-year terms. President-Elect Patricia Egan Daehnke assumes the presidency on July 1, 2013.
The Committee consists of LACBA's immediate past president; current president; president-elect; nine members selected by lot from those who have served on the Board of Trustees during the previous four years as an at-large, section, or affiliate trustee; and two members designated by the Barristers president.
No member of the Committee may be nominated, either by the Committee or by a written nomination, for an elective office, including the position of trustee, during the year of service on the Committee. Nominees for president-elect, senior vice president, and vice president must have served as a LACBA trustee for at least two years prior to July 1, 2013. Nominees for the 18 trustee positions 1) must be a LACBA member for at least three years prior to July 1, 2013, and 2) should have demonstrated service for LACBA through active membership on one or more LACBA sections, committees, or in LACBA public service projects for at least two years. In addition, nominees for section trustee and affiliate trustee positions must be a member of at least one section or one affiliated bar association, respectively, at all times during their terms on the LACBA Board.
The Committee must complete its work by mid-April. A member meeting the eligibility criteria stated above may also run for a trustee or officer position upon filing with the executive director by April 30, 2013, a written nomination signed by at least 100 members. Nomination forms are available at the LACBA offices.
