Victim Compensation Claim and Application Assistance Now Offered at LACBA's Domestic Violence Project

Funds and pro bono services provided by Buchalter Nemer to launch new service

The Buchalter Nemer Victim Compensation Claim and Application Assistance Fund officially debuts this month as a new service provided through LACBA's Domestic Violence Project.

Funded by a generous $25,000 grant from Buchalter Nemer, the assistance program was established to help domestic violence victims apply to the California Victim Compensation Program (CalVCP), which can provide them with financial independence needed to break away from their abuser.

In addition to Buchalter Nemer’s significant financial contribution, attorneys from the firm will also meet with abuse victims to help them navigate through the complicated process of applying for CalVCP funds. The attorneys will provide their pro bono services on the second and fourth Thursday of every month from 1:30 to 4:00 p.m. at LACBA’s Domestic Violence Project in Room 245, Department 8, of the Stanley Mosk Courthouse in downtown Los Angeles.

“Buchalter Nemer’s very generous donation of funds and pro bono services will have a direct impact on improving the lives of the nearly 10,000 clients that DVP provides legal services to each year,” said Deborah A. Kelly, DVP’s directing attorney. “The application process and follow-up information needed to apply for assistance from the California Victim Compensation Program will now be less daunting for our clients because Buchalter Nemer’s attorneys will not only help our clients fill out the appropriate paperwork but also serve as their advocates throughout the application process with the state.”
