Barristers Election Process Begins 

The 2012 Barristers election process begins March 15, the first day to file a self-nominating petition for one of the seven two-year positions on the executive committee or for the offices of president-elect or vice president. The president-elect and vice president each have one-year terms. The president-elect automatically succeeds the president.

All self-nominating petitions must be filed by April 4 and must be signed by at least 10 Barristers.

To be eligible for president-elect or for a seat on the Executive Committee, candidates must have been born after January 1, 1977, or not have completed the 5th year of practice as of January 1, 2012. Candidates for vice president must have been born after January 1, 1976, or not have completed the 5th year of practice as of January 1, 2012. Candidates for president-elect and vice president must have previously served or be serving on the executive committee. Executive committee candidates must not have served previously for more than three years as of July 1, 2012.

Are you a LACBA member less than 36 years of age or practicing law for five years or less? If so, you are eligible to become a member of the Barristers Section, LACBA’s new and young attorney section. Barristers has its own officers, executive committee, and committees. Barristers holds its annual elections electronically.
