June 3 Dana Latham Award Luncheon to Honor Edwin G. Schuck Jr.

The Taxation Section has selected Edwin G. Schuck Jr. as the recipient of its prestigious Dana Latham Award for lifetime achievement in the field of taxation law. He will be honored at the section’s annual Dana Latham Award Luncheon on June 3 at the Omni Los Angeles Hotel.

Schuck has practiced tax law for 41 years. His corporate practice is mergers and acquisitions-based, and his tax practice focuses on corporate, finance, partnership, real estate, executive compensation, and international taxation, as well as federal, state, and local tax controversies and tax litigation. He specializes in tax-oriented transactional work, such as mergers and acquisitions, public debt and equity offerings, private equity and debt, joint ventures and alliances, start-up ventures, leveraged equipment leases, project finance, real estate transactions, entertainment projects, cross-border transactions, work-outs, minerals, oil and gas, employee stock ownership plans (ESOPS), and financial projects.

Schuck began his law practice in 1970 on Wall Street at Sullivan & Cromwell, where he specialized in taxation. He moved his law practice to Los Angeles in 1980, where he has been a partner at Munger, Tolles & Olson and at McDermott, Will & Emery. In 2009, he opened his law office in downtown Los Angeles.

Schuck has served as an adjunct professor in taxation at Golden Gate University School of Taxation and USC Graduate School of Accounting. He is also a former two-term mayor and a city council member for the city of Bradbury. He has served as chair of LACBA's Taxation Section and is a former member of the executive committee of the California State Bar Taxation Section in addition to service on many other sections and committees.

After receiving his A.B. from Columbia University cum laude, he earned his M.B.A. and J.D. from Columbia University.

Luncheon information. The featured speaker at the noon luncheon will be Professor Edward Kleinbard, USC Gould School of Law. The luncheon, preceded by a no-host reception at 11:30 a.m., will be held at the Omni Los Angeles Hotel in downtown Los Angeles. The price of the luncheon is $90 per person or $720 for a table of 8.
