1997 Law Day -
Community Outreach Program, May 3rd

Los Angeles, May 1, 2004 - The Los Angeles County Bar Association’s Barristers and other local bar associations are once again offering a free Ask-a-Lawyer Program on Saturday, May 3rd from 10am to 4pm.

As part of national Law Day, attorneys will be providing free brief consultations on general legal questions on a "walk-up" basis at local shopping malls and community centers throughout Los Angeles County. They will provide a summary of legal rights and general advice, and where appropriate, will refer individuals to the proper legal or government organizations, including the Los Angeles County Bar Association’s Lawyer Referral and Information Service, which is celebrating its 60th anniversary. They will not provide specific counseling in individual cases, nor will they accept any cases from the people they talk to.

The attorneys will answer questions on consumer rights, landlord-tenant issues, insurance problems, family law, bankruptcy, government benefits, employee rights, workers’ compensation, personal injury and other topics.

For a referral to an attorney for specific advice, you may call the
lawyer referral service  directly at (213) 243-1525, or for more legal information, call the  SmartLawSM   telephone information line at (213) 243-1500.

This year’s Law Day program is co-sponsored by the Barristers of the Los Angeles County Bar, Beverly Hills Bar Association, Black Women Lawyers Association, Consumer Attorneys Association of Los Angeles, Southern California Chinese Lawyers Association, Eastern Bar Association, Glendale Bar Association, Irish American Bar Association, Japanese American Bar Association, John M. Langston Bar Association, Korean American Bar Association, Lawyers for Human Rights (LHR) - the Lesbian and Gay Bar Association, Long Beach Bar Association, Pasadena Bar Association, Philippine American Bar Association of Los Angeles, San Fernando Valley Bar Association, Santa Monica Bar Association, and South Bay Bar Association.

The Los Angeles County Bar Association is the largest local voluntary bar association in the nation with a membership of more than 23,000 attorneys. The County Bar is extensively engaged in advancing the administration of justice, promoting many public service projects, and meeting the professional needs of lawyers. The Barristers Section is composed of County Bar members under 36 years of age, or who have been admitted to the practice of law for five years or less.
