Governance Task Force and Its Recommendations Could Affect the State Bar of California
California Assembly Bill 2764 requires the State Bar to establish a Governance in Public Interest Task Force. By May 15, 2011, and every three years thereafter, the task force must prepare and submit an annual report to the California Supreme Court, the Governor, and the Assembly and Senate Committees on Judiciary that includes its recommendations for enhancing the protection of the public and ensuring that protection of the public is the highest priority in the licensing and regulation of attorneys.   (more)

Spotlight on Lawyer Referral and Information Service: Serving the Community for Nearly 75 Years
LACBA's nonprofit Lawyer Referral and Information Service began in 1937 during an era marked by the Great Depression. Since its inception, it has grown to become the nation's oldest and largest nonprofit lawyer referral service. Last year alone, LRIS made more than 20,000 referrals to panel attorneys, generated more than $8 million in fees for participating panel members, and provided assistance to more than 100,000 individuals and businesses.   (more)

Bar Foundation's Annual Fund Campaign Needs Your Donation Today
Consider this: If every LACBA member donated just the $50 suggested on the dues statement, and the Foundation received no other contributions from any other sources, there would be enough money to fund every grant applicant in full. Your gift really does make a difference.   (more)

Write Resolutions and Represent Your Bar Association as a Conference Delegate
LACBA sends approximately 50 delegates to the Conference of California Bar Associations each year who, along with the other roughly 250 attendees representing local bar associations, debate proposed changes to and new statutory law. Participating in the delegation is an opportunity to enrich your career by playing an active role in creating California law and an opportunity to enjoy camaraderie with an esteemed community of attorneys who actively advocate these changes and additions.   (more)
