LACBA Business & Corporate Section: eNews
Volume I, Number 10 | An E-Publication of the Los Angeles County Bar Association | October 2010

Message from the Chair

Welcome to LACBA's Business and Corporations Law Section.  We are committed to providing quality CLE programs and other resources to attorneys based in the Los Angeles County who focus their practice in the areas of business, corporate and securities law.  Throughout the year, the section holds seminars on a variety of current topics relevant to these practice areas and sponsors other events to facilitate networking and exchange of ideas among members.

Our first event of 2010-11 year is the 43rd Annual Securities Regulation Seminar to be held on Friday, October 29, 2010 at the Millennium Biltmore Hotel, Los Angeles.   This is one of our flagship programs and features senior officials from the Securities and Exchange Commission (D.C. and Los Angeles Regional Office) and the California Department of Corporations, as well as top practitioners from prominent law firms across the city.  This year, our speakers will be addressing current topics such as the Dodd-Frank Act, recent trends in M&A, Foreign Corrupt Practices Act, SEC enforcement issues and other interesting topics. Speakers include SEC Commissioner Elisse B. Walter and Department of Corporations Commissioner Preston DuFauchard.

We look forward to seeing you at the program next Friday and at future events.

Sincerely,

David C. Eisman, Section Chair

News from California Department of Corporations

Did you know that the California Department of Corporations (DOC) operates two different programs intended to protect seniors and service members and their families from investment and financial fraud? DOC's Seniors Against Investment Fraud (SAIF) program was established to alert and educate Californians over the age of 50 about financial and investment fraud, scams and unscrupulous sales practices targeting seniors. In addition, the department's Troops Against Predatory Scams (TAP$) program has been providing thousands of military members, veterans and their families assistance with how to deal with predatory lending practices, unsuitable insurance policies and a variety of fraudulent practices directed towards them. For more information on these programs, please check here.
