Justice Laurence Rubin and Peter Robinson to Address Mediation Confidentiality: Issues and Current Cases
The program—which takes place at the offices of O’Melveny & Meyers LLP, 1999 Avenue of the Stars, 7th Floor, in Los Angeles, beginning with a reception at 5:30 p.m.—is presented by Los Angeles County Bar Association DRS in association with The Rutter Group, and is chaired by Max Factor III.
The 2010 Weil Lecturers are innovative scholars, theoreticians, and practitioners who, in the tradition of the Weil Lecture, offer cutting-edge insights from the field. Justice Rubin has been a judge for 28 years, the last nine on the California Court of Appeal. He hears a full range of civil, criminal, juvenile, and family law matters, and currently supervises the court’s Judicial Extern Program. Since 2005, Justice Rubin has been a member of the California Supreme Court’s Ethics Advisory Committee and previously served as chair of the California Judges Association Ethics Committee.
Professor Peter Robinson, recognized as a Southern California Super Lawyer in the area of mediation since 2006, is a sought-after lecturer and trainer who presents advanced negotiation and mediation skills instruction worldwide. Prior to his work with Pepperdine, he served as director of the Christian Conciliation Service of Los Angeles and presently is a fellow of the International Academy of Mediators and the American College of Civil Trial Mediators.
The annual lecture was established in 2006 to honor the late Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Robert I. Weil, who was a president of the California Judges Association and a true legend of the California judiciary. Judge Weil began a second career in the field of alternative dispute resolution after retiring from the bench.
Tickets for the event are $75/general admission, $50/judicial rate, and $25/students. Sponsorship opportunities are available. Proceeds of the Weil Lecture support DRS Community and Youth Peer Mediation Programs.
