Los Angeles, October 31, 1997 - The Los Angeles County Bar Association's Lawyer Referral and Information Service (LRIS) is proud to celebrate sixty years in serving the community. Since 1937, over half a million businesses and consumers have been referred to attorneys, including 60,000 people last year. In addition, nearly half a million calls were made to SmartLaw SM , the automated telephone legal information service. In honor of its sixtieth anniversary, LRIS donated $60,000 to the public service projects of the Los Angeles County Bar Association. The money will help fund legal assistance projects dealing with domestic violence, AIDS/HIV, the homeless, and immigration, among others.
