LACBA Cosponsors ABA Recommendation to Eliminate Barriers to Civil Marriage

LACBA trustees voted unanimously at the May Board of Trustees meeting to cosponsor an ABA recommendation for the elimination of barriers to civil marriage, to be submitted to the ABA House of Delegates during the 2010 ABA Annual Meeting in San Francisco on August 9 and 10.

Both LACBA’s Sexual Orientation and Bias Committee and LACBA’s Individual Rights Section Executive Committee strongly urged cosponsorship.

A resolution adopted by trustees stated in part that LACBA agreed to cosponsor the recommendation urging “state, territorial, and tribal governments to eliminate legal barriers to civil marriage between two persons of the same sex.” LACBA recently had taken a position supporting same-sex civil marriage.
