Sally Suchil Named New LACBA Executive Director
Before coming to the Association, Suchil served as the director of corporate and legal affairs for the Hammer Museum in Los Angeles, where she was responsible for a wide range of matters including general corporate, regulatory, litigation, intellectual property, contractual, art and museum legal, administrative, governance, internal policy, and other business.
Previously, Suchil was the general counsel for the California Endowment, and before that, senior vice president and general counsel for Spelling Entertainment Group, Inc., where she managed its legal department, served as a member of the senior management and executive team, and held the position of secretary to the Board of Directors. Prior to Spelling, she served as senior vice president and assistant general counsel at Metro-Golden-Mayer Inc., and as staff counsel for the Securities & Exchange Commission’s Los Angeles Regional Office in both enforcement and corporate finance.
“I am truly honored to have been selected to serve as the Association’s next executive director, and I look forward to working with President Don Mike Anthony, the Board of Trustees, sections, committees, and members,” said Suchil. “The Association has a long and distinguished history, and provides many great services to its membership and the public. It will be a pleasure to take the helm of such a fine organization.”
Suchil has participated in numerous capacities on professional, philanthropic, and foundation boards and commissions, including chair of the ABA Minority In-House Counsel Group; vice president of the Board of Directors, CSULA Foundation; secretary of the Board of Directors, Police Foundation (Washington, D.C.); member of the Board of Councilors, USC Law Center; deputy general counsel of the Webster Commission; president of Women Lawyers Association of Los Angeles; and trustee of the Los Angeles County Bar Association.
Suchil is a graduate of the University of Southern California and the University of Santa Clara School of Law, and is admitted to the State Bar of California, the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals, and the U.S. District Courts for the Central and Eastern Districts of California.
"LACBA conducted a nationwide search for a new executive director over a number of months. Many fine candidates were identified and interviewed,” said LACBA President Don Mike Anthony. “After the exhaustive search, Sally Suchil was quickly identified as the best person for the position, and we are very fortunate that she has agreed to join LACBA. We expect that she will be of immense benefit to LACBA in improving the services we render to our members, increasing our membership base, and helping to insure our future financial integrity."
Suchil assumes the role of executive director upon the departure of Stuart Forsyth, who is leaving the Association after serving as executive director for the past five years. Forsyth returns to his consulting practice, “The Legal Futurist,” which provides leadership coaching, visioning, strategic planning, and guidance to components of the system of administration of justice, including bar associations, law firms, courts, CLE providers, judges, and lawyers.
