Welcome home—to the Los Angeles County Bar Association! If you are an attorney practicing in Los Angeles County, or far beyond, you have found the place where you can get more help on more matters from more knowledgeable people, and at a lower cost, than from any other bar association. That's our promise to you.
Are you looking for help in your practice? You've come to the right place. LACBA can help you with our Daily EBriefs appellate case summaries, the CLE-packed, award-winning Los Angeles Lawyer magazine, our Searchable Civil Register and Daily Elerts, and 22 practice-area sections offering live education programs and interactive listserves through which you can explore topics with experts in your field.
Are you a new lawyer? You've come to the right place. Join our Barristers —the hub for new lawyers—where you can meet and work with other new attorneys on projects that benefit the profession and the community, or just kick back and relax with a group of like-minded peers at monthly networking events.
Are you a seasoned lawyer? You've come to the right place. Join the Senior Lawyers, the group that proudly displays its dinosaur logo. Join the Senior Lawyers for interesting programs about the past and future of the legal profession, transitional and retirement planning, and camaraderie. You'll find some of the most respected names in the profession in attendance, and members who, frankly, are having more fun than in any of our other sections. All are welcome.
Are you looking for CLE? You've come to the right place. LACBA offers numerous CLE programs, both self-study and participatory, to fit everyone's budget and schedule. In addition to more than 200 live programs each year, we offer on-demand distance learning, either live or as a replay, as well as our exclusive CLE-in-a-Box, which contains the full 25 credits needed for a three-year compliance period.
Are you looking to expand your practice or change your career? You've come to the right place. LACBA can provide you with referrals through our Lawyer Referral and Information Service and Indigent Criminal Defense Appointments, marketing advice through our Small and Solo Practitioners, and career assistance through our Jobs Bulletin Board and career counseling listserve. You can also learn about practice areas by joining our sections or attending our numerous section programs.
Are you looking for pro bono volunteer opportunities? You've come to the right place. LACBA needs volunteers (especially Spanish-speaking) for our public service projects: Immigration Legal Assistance, Domestic Violence, HIV-AIDS Legal Services, and Dispute Resolution Services. Last year, our members provided more than 7,500 pro bono hours to our projects! And if you just can't fit volunteer activities into your busy schedule, you can still support these projects and many other nonprofits in the community, including the Harriett Buhai Center for Family Law and the Legal Aid Foundation of Los Angeles, by donating to the Los Angeles County Bar Foundation.
Are you looking for a place to network and mix with other attorneys? You've come to the right place. LACBA offers a variety of mixers, social events, and other programs, including our annual Small and Solo Conference; the Real Property Section's Crocker Symposium; the annual symposia of our Business and Corporations Law, Entertainment and Intellectual Property Law, Environmental Law, Family Law, and Labor and Employment Law sections; and, of course, our annual Installation and Awards Dinner, to bring lawyers together. And with more than 20,000 members, there is bound to be someone here you want to meet!
Are you aspiring to leadership in the Bar? You've come to the right place. There are opportunities galore for anyone who wants to become a leader in the Bar, including 24 executive committees, 31 active policy committees, and numerous other venues to whet your appetite for leadership.
Are you looking to become a judge? You've come to the right place. LACBA members are well represented on both the state and federal benches. Past LACBA presidents now serve as superior court judges (including the assistant presiding judge), justices of the California Court of Appeal, and the U.S. District Court. And don't forget our wildly successful annual Bench Meets Bar program.
Join us! We promise you will learn something, meet interesting people, and have some fun along the way.
