FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
Barristers Domestic Violence Project Wins City Community Service Award
Los Angeles, May 31, 1998 - The County Bar Barristers Domestic Violence Legal Services Project, under the guidance of Directing Attorney Patricia Andreani, has received a 1998 Community Service Award from the Criminal Justice Panel of the L.A. City Attorney's Office.
The project helps victims of domestic violence obtain temporary and permanent restraining orders against their assailants. Project volunteers advise clients appearing in proper of the procedural steps involved in obtaining the restraining orders and assist with the completion of the necessary forms to ensure police protection. (In many cases, clients' lives are in danger.)
The project, which works with the local police, prosecutors and the courts, operates in the Central and Pasadena Districts of L.A. Superior Court. In 1997 alone, the project assisted more than 6,500 clients.
