Brown Bag Lunches

The Litigation Section's Brown Bag Lunch programs provide attorneys with the opportunity to speak with judges about a wide variety of topics.  This year, Brown Bag Lunches will cover both federal and state court topics and are free to LACBA members.  The bring-your-own lunches typically take place at a courthouse from 12:15-1:15.

3/10/16: Litigation Brown Bag Lunch:  Dismissal of Class Actions
Please join us for an informative discussion with a panel of judges from the Los Angeles Superior Court’s Complex Civil Litigation Program. This panel will explore best practices for parties seeking dismissal of class actions in state court, including courts’ considerations in granting approval of dismissals and compliance with the requirements of California Rules of Court 3.769-3.770 concerning the settlement and voluntary dismissal of class actions.

Please join us for a discussion of “Do’s and Don’ts” with four Los Angeles Superior Court Judges: Hon. Elizabeth White, Hon. Elizabeth Feffer, Hon. Marc Marmaro, and Hon. Anthony Mohr. This Brown Bag Lunch will give practitioners an opportunity to learn about what the judges find persuasive and how to avoid their pet peeves.

1/27/16: Litigation Brown Bag Lunch:  Elimination of Bias – A Discussion of Gender Issues
Please join us for an informative discussion with four Los Angeles Superior Court Judges: Hon. Kevin Brazile, Hon. Holly Fujie, Hon. Samantha Jessner, and Hon. Yvette M. Palazuelos.  This Brown Bag Lunch will give practitioners an opportunity to meet Superior Court judges involved in the Court’s Access and Fairness Committee, who will discuss gender bias issues in the courtroom.  MCLE credit is available.

11/17/15: Litigation Brown Bag Lunch:  Federal Discovery Motions and Protective Orders
Please join us for an informative discussion with three U.S. District Court Magistrate Judges, Hon. Alicia G. Rosenberg, Hon. Suzanne H. Segal, and Hon. Patrick J. Walsh.  This panel will explore best practices for litigating discovery motions in federal court.  In addition, the judges will provide their views on what terms should or should not be sought in a protective order. 

10/30/15: Litigation Brown Bag Lunch:  Meet the Personal Injury Court Judges
This Brown Bag Lunch provides practitioners with the opportunity to get to know the personal injury court judges better and to learn how personal injury cases are assigned to trial judges in Department 1.  Hon. Teresa A. Beaudet, Hon. Kevin C. Brazile, Hon. Holly J. Fujie, Hon. Howard L. Halm, Hon. Daniel S. Murphy, Hon. David Sotelo, and Hon. Michelle Williams Court will all be participating in this event.
