Corporate Law Departments Section

The Corporate Law Departments Section serves more than 600 corporate lawyers in Southern California and is governed by a 33 member Executive Committee comprised of senior lawyers from local corporations. Membership in the Section is limited to attorneys employed full-time by a corporation in its law department or in an executive, managerial, or supervisory capacity. Membership in this Section provides unique opportunities for attorneys to meet and discuss issues of concern to their practices. Members are provided with important information, opportunities to share experiences, and a social environment for corporate counsel.

The section sponsors educational programs, which are designed to satisfy MCLE requirements.

We also offer periodic networking and social functions at places such as the Getty Museum and Warner Bros. Studios.

Each year, the Corporate Law Departments Section also presents the Outstanding Corporate Counsel Awards Dinner, an annual event to honor an outstanding member of the corporate legal community, which is a social high point for contact between corporate and outside counsel.

In addition, the Section publishes the Corporate Counselor, a quarterly newsletter, and maintains an on-line, user populated networking Directory of Corporate Counsel in Southern California, the latter being an excellent resource for information on corporate attorneys employed by major companies in Southern California.

The Corporate Law Departments Section sponsors educational programs that are designed to satisfy MCLE requirements. These programs include:

  • The Institute for Corporate Counsel, co-sponsored with the University of Southern California Law School, a nationally recognized legal education program, serving more than 500 business lawyers annually;
  • The General Counsel Round Table, where senior corporate counsel gather to discuss topics of importance to business lawyers; and
  • The Annual Seminar, an excellent educational opportunity combined with a social program, in local resort cities such as Palm Springs and Dana Point.
  • Seminars and other programs dealing with problems of common interest, such as corporation and antitrust law, attorney-client privilege, governmental regulation, law department administration, and relations with outside counsel.
Section resources and documents will be added here as they become available.
